  1. I can't get Mapper to work at all. Where am I going wrong ?
  2. This can be caused by various problems, or just by the fact that I am not very good at writing help files (you have read the help file, haven't you ?). Try the following :

    1. Load your mailer
    2. Look at the movement results file
    3. Select "Save Message" or "Save to File" or whatever your mailer has instead.
    4. Select the filename gamename.txt
    5. Load Mapper.
    6. Select Open Game
    7. Click on gamename.txt, and click OK
    8. Click OK twice more. The game should now appear in the list of games
    9. Click on the game name, and then on OK. The game should appear.
If this does not work, then let me know where you get to before it all goes wrong. Also, please let me know any messages you get EXACTLY. I can then search for them in the code and tell you what causes them. Also any info on your version of windows, your mailer, etc might be useful. I can be contacted at mapper@ellought.demon.co.uk.

  3. Mapper 1.2 keeps hanging when redrawing under Windows 95.
  4. This is a problem with the drivers for certain high performance video cards. The driver for the card does not properly handle patterned flood-fills. If you go to the Map-Colours option on the Options menu in Mapper, and set both land and sea to 0, then the problem will go away. You will not get shaded sea either, but that has to be better than a system crash.

  5. I have version 1.17. Should I upgrade to 1.2 ?
  6. Version 1.17 and Version 1.2 are identical, except for the version number. I just forgot to update the number before releasing it to the world.

  7. Units do not appear in certain provinces on my Colonial map.
  8. This was a problem with the original set of files for the Colonial Variant. The problem has now been fixed. If you go back to the Mapper home page, and download the latest version of colonial.zip, and unzip it into your Mapper directory, over the Colonial files you have there already, then the problem should be solved.

  9. If I view a Modern Game and then a Fleet Rome game, then the map does not change back to the Standard Map.
  10. This is an error in the file variants.lst. It gives the variant name as Fleet_rome when it should be Fleet_Rome (Note the capital R). To fix it, load variants.lst into Notepad, or a similar text editor, and find the line Variant:Fleet_rome. Change the r to an R and save the file, and it should work fine.
